Introduction continued....As a beverage, it has grown in popularity for the past one thousand years, and is now one of the world's favourite drinks. One reason could be because it's a stimulant, and is believed to temporary improve awareness and alertness. The process of creating a cup of coffee begins with the cultivation of coffee berries. The berries are then picked, dried, processed and roasted to makes beans. After this, the beans are stored in a cool dry place, and grounded down to make a powder. The process of grinding the beans can either be done at home, or already packaged grounded by the manufacturer. To find out about fair trade beans visit Puro. Finally, the brewing of the coffee takes place. Through history there has been many methods for achieving this. The most common methods are to steep, boil or to pressurise. The simplest method is to pour boiling hot water into a cup with grounded coffee. In the past one hundred years efforts have been made to improve and automate the process. Mechanic coffeemakers are the result. A percolator for example, uses a filter, so that boiling hot water is dropped onto the grounded coffee. A cafetière, combines the grounded coffee and water and presses them together, and finally plunges the result. An espresso pressurises water through the coffee, to create the most concentrated coffee of the three machines.
